What makes this membrane unique is that while it is porous to gases, it remains impervious to resin. That means that when resin is fed into the vacuum space to bond the composite materials, it is not allowed to escape.

Many vacuum processes often result in some escaping of resin that is essentially wasted as it cannot be reused. This also makes the calculation of the amount of utilized resin difficult. Most figures that result from such calculations are estimates at best. Using an MTI hose ensures that these calculations are precise as all the resin fed into the vacuum will go into the structure of the part being made. 

The low pressure environment that is sustained throughout the process until curing is done and also helps to ensure that the part is not ruined by the trapping of air bubbles. The pressure encourages dissipation of any air bubbles and provides for a smoother finish of the part. There is no painting or sanding that is required after the part is demoulded. With less processing to finish the part, less time is spent in its production.
